The Lisbon Metro is turning sustainability into action with a creative twist. Through its “Make the World Circular” program, in partnership with startup ToBeGreen from the University of Minho, old uniforms and donated textiles from staff and passengers are being transformed into cozy dog beds.
Lisbon Metro Gives Old Uniforms a New Life—and Helps Dogs in Need
Available in medium (€37) and large (€49) sizes via the Metro’s online store, every purchase supports União Zoófila, a leading animal welfare organization in the Lisbon metropolitan area. By reimagining waste as a resource, the Metro is reducing textile waste, helping hundreds of animals, and proving that eco-friendly initiatives can have a real social impact.
This project is a perfect example of the circular economy in action: materials that would have been discarded gain a second life, communities benefit, and sustainability becomes tangible. The Lisbon Metro shows that green thinking doesn’t have to stop at recycling—it can inspire innovation, solidarity, and a more responsible future.
